Important Date - Monday August 24

is the last day to withdraw from degree subjects without forfeiting the entire fee.

 This day is also the

FEE-HELP Census Date

Provided you submit your completed ‘Course Alteration Form’ on or before August 24, you will only be charged a 20% withdrawal fee.

Withdrawal charges apply regardless of whether subject fees were paid direct to the school or funded by FEE-HELP.

If your Sem. 1 grade is NN (or SNN after Supps), you mustcomplete a withdrawal form for any of this semester’s subjects requiring the failed unit as a pre-requisite.

Under these circumstances, withdrawal charges are not applicable.

If you have not officially withdrawn by the Census Date, the entire cost of the subject will be forfeited.

Are you thinking of changing to a different class time? If so,

YOU MUST SUBMIT A CLASS TRANSFER FORM.

Last semester, failure to do so resulted in some students being given an automatic ‘Fail’ for their subject due to the absence of a mark against their name on the roll.

Administration work hard to produce the correct result. Please do your part to ensure we are working with accurate data.

TIMETABLE CHANGES

Some changes have been made to Semester 2 timetables.

Please keep checking for updates.

IMPORTANT NOTICE RE H1N1 SWINE FLU.

Recent experience since the arrival of the Swine Flu Virus in Australia has demonstrated that schools and colleges are places in which the Swine Flu virus can spread with considerable speed.

The Southern School’s duty of care to its students and staff is paramount. Regrettably, in order to minimise the risk of an outbreak of the virus within the School so close to the first semester examination period, until further notice, the School’s clinics will not be able to treat patients with upper respiratory tract infections and/or flu-like symptoms.

Recently the government announced that Victoria has moved to the “sustain” phase of dealing with the disease. Whilst there is no longer a legal requirement for the School to refer patients with flu-like symptoms to their GPs, it is SSNT policy that the School continues to make this recommendation. There are conditions other than influenza which start with flu-like symptoms so it is therefore important that patients with these symptoms have their conditions properly diagnosed.

The School would like to inform its patients that it is particularly important for pregnant women, patients with shortness of breath, and those with poorly controlled diabetes or asthma to seek such medical assistance.

The School regrets the need to adopt the above policy during this “sustain” phase of the disease. The School’s policy relating to this issue is under constant review and may be modified when circumstances warrant.

Important Note - To All Students

Bikes are NOT to be parked on the small Herb garden bed directly outside the clinic building. We are trying to establish a small garden outside the clinic for the enjoyment of clients and students. It is very difficult to actually get the plants to grow in this space without them being destroyed by bike tyres.

Bikes parked there will be removed.

Austudy Loadings

If you wish to calculate your Austudy Loading (minimum 75%) please click on the Course Fees/Austudy Loadings link below and then select the course and year you wish to look at.

Course Fees/Austudy Loadings

Are you claiming Austudy?

There are a few things you need to be aware of . . .

  • The loading for each subject has been calculated for you and can be accessed via southernschool.com under ‘Course Fees/Austudy Loading’. You should ensure that your selected subjects add up to at least 75% prior to enrolment.

  • Do not assume that you are meeting your Austudy requirements simply because a certain number of subjects was OK in a previous semester.

  • To be eligible to claim an Austudy allowance, you must be undertaking a minimum study loading of 75%. This is calculated on contact hours taken as a percentage of contact hours required for that semester.

  • Centrelink does an audit each semester on all students claiming Austudy. Recently, some students have been asked to pay back past benefits.

  • Since Austudy was absorbed by Centrelink, very few of their staff have a thorough understanding of the system. This can lead to mis-information. If you request advice from a Centrelink staff member regarding eligibility of your study load, try to get confirmation in writing, or at least take a note of the date, the office location and their name.

  • If you are need further advice regarding your Austudy requirements, please make an appointment with Reception to see Cheryl Richter.

ATTENTION EVENING STUDENTS:

If you do not have a 2009 Diary, you may pick one up from the Library desk.  Day students may continue to get their Diary from Reception.

Diaries will be avalaible to all enrolled students.
